Hanson Brothers
Slap Shot (1977)

Charlestown Chiefs (forward line)

Let’s forget about the forgettable sequels shall we?

Slap Shot is without any doubt the most influential hockey movie of all time.  This cannot be disputed, and if it, that person is what we like to call, wrong!

The Hanson Brothers are the first inductees into the Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame who are inducted as a group, and how can you separate them?  Played by three legitimate hockey players (David Hanson, Steve Carlson & Jeff Carson), the bespectacled trio were simpletons off of the ice and feared goons on it.

This was the group that brought popularity to the team and arguably to the movie itself.

They were the ones you quoted, the ones you remembered the most and the most enduring characters from the film.

It is with great pleasure that the Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame inducts the Hanson Brothers!

Old time hockey!

Quick Rick Roberts

Quick Rick Roberts
It may not be our favorite cinematic Roddy Piper performance (that will always be his role in “They Live”) but our favorite wrestler of all time only had one role as a ….wrestler. As such, we would like to nominate “Hot Rod” as “Quick” Rick Roberts; a role that did not really fit his WWF persona, but really, this is all we have.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Body Slam (1987)

Actor:
“Rowdy” Roddy Piper

Why you should vote for him:
We know we are not the only hardcore fans of the Rowdy one.

Why you should not vote for him:
Realistically, this is not the Roddy Piper we love.

Tony Micelli

Tony Micelli
“Ay oh. Oh Ay.” This one perplexes us a bit. We admit to watching Who’s the Boss, though in our defence this was an era where nothing much else was on, and we were developing our crush on Alyssa Milano; which we still have to this day. The show may have been based on the sexual tension between Tony Danza (Tony Miceli) and Judith Light (Angela Bower), but in our sports related world, Micelli was a former Baseball player who had a cup of coffee with the St. Louis Cardinals. Danza could play the role of a former athlete, as he was genuinely one himself (he was a boxer) and at the time of the show’s airing he was in great shape. A few episodes dealt with baseball, though we remember the one where he boxed Thomas Hearns more. Actually, we remember the episode where he saw Angela naked in the shower in the first season far more. We bet you do too.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Who’s The Boss? (1984-1993)

Actor:
Tony Danza

Position Portrayed:
Second Base

Played for:
St. Louis Cardinals

Why you should vote for him:
This was the show that introduced us to Alyssa Milano, which for anyone born in the early 70’s, is a very good thing.

Why you should not vote for him:
We are old school on this, but a male maid in our Hall of Fame?

Tony Banta

Tony Banta
At no point do we remember when we were watching Taxi, did we think that Tony Danza would have a long career in acting, but the former boxer started off playing a role he understood; a former boxer. As the dim-witted Tony Banta, Danza had the kind heart, tough fists and the New York attitude that helped make the ensemble comedy work. The show also paid a lot of attention to Banta’s boxing career, and made a point of incorporating it in minor plotlines. Incidentally Danza’s boxing record was considerably better than Banta’s; who was often knocked out.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Taxi (1978-1983)

Actor:
Tony Danza

Why you should vote for him:
His boxing plotlines were often referred to.

Why you should not vote for him:
He may have been Italian, but he was no Rocky.
