Les Garcons de la Plage

Les Garcons de la Plage
Dubbed the “French Beach Boys”, Les Garcons de la Plage were also managed by Leggy Mountbatten, who managed the Rutles. All we really learned about them is that they one album (California Boys) in 1968 and was only successful on the beaches of Normandy. We really did not see more than an album cover, though like all thinks Rutles, we actually know the names of the band, and all the tracks from their lone album. This really shouldn’t have a shot, but we are a sucker for any band that regularly poses with baguettes.

Lenny and the Squigtones

Lenny and the Squigtones
We did not know then what a musical genius that Michael McKean was, but how could we when we only knew him as Lenny from Laverne and Shirley. As it would turn out, this would be the first foray into the fictitious musical world for McKean and he wasn’t bad capturing the essence of the 1950’s. Honestly, we are thinking about making a wing in our Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame just for McKean.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Laverne & Shirley (1979)

Actors:
Michael McKean (Lenny)
David Lander (Squiggy)

Songs you might remember:
Star Crossed

Why you should vote for them:
The McKean factor is huge!

Why you should not vote for them:
They had no hit or any signature song.

Leather Tuscadero

Leather Tuscadero
Played by the very capable Suzi Quatro, Leather Tuscadero appeared on seven episodes of the very successful sitcom, Happy Days.  With her punk mullet haircut, she was a little out of place (not that Happy Days cared about period authenticity after the first two seasons) but every time she appeared, she was always given a number and was usually backed by Ritchie Cunningham’s unnamed band, and in one occasion had Joanie as a backup singer.   We can’t say that her singing skills were really put to the best of use (Do the Fonzie?), but Quatro is probably better known for that role than anything else she did in music.

Laura Charles

Laura Charles
In this 80’s cheesefest, Vanity appears as a singer who becomes the love interest for a young black Martial Arts enthusiast and devotee of Bruce Lee. Does it really matter what the plot is? All we know is that Vanity was in it, and it is a guilty pleasure movie; much like her singing was a guilty pleasure for many.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
The Last Dragon (1985)

Actor:
Vanity

Songs you might remember:
7th Heaven

Why you should vote for her:
Vanity was one of the hotter women of her day; if you remember that day, this is not a bad choice.

Why you should not vote for her:
She was never a great singer; even in the fictitious world.
