Three Do's and a Don't

Three Dos and A Dont
Ah, the Sweathogs! The Four Horsemen of the 1970’s Sitcom world. In a two-part episode the Vinnie Barberino led group entered a talent show but slacks when he falls for a rival female performer (which may have been a stretch for Travolta). He eventually picked his “bros before hos” but the Sweathogs lost to a bird caller (seriously). Damn, we love the 70’s!

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Welcome Back Kotter (1977)

Actors:
John Travolta (Vinnie Barberino)
Ron Palilo (Arnold Horshack)
Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs (Freddie “Boom-Boom” Washington)
Robert Hegyes (Juan Epstien)

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for them:
Come on, these are the Sweathogs!

Why you should not vote for them:
They lost to a bird caller...again a bird caller. How can they receive a vote after that?

The Three Blazes

Three Blazes The
Inspired by his stint in the U.S. Army, Elvis Presley starred in G.I. Blues where he and two of his friends form a band while serving in Germany. The plot really doesn’t matter in an Elvis movie, as long as there is a lot of music. As this was a period where his music was decent, that is good enough for most people.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
G.I. Blues (1960)

Actors:
Elvis Presley (Tulsa McLean)
Robert Ivers (Cookie
James Douglas (Rick)

Songs you might remember:
Wooden Heart
Blue Suede Shoes

Why you should vote for them:
The music was good here.

Why you should not vote for them:
The Elvis films are not ones that people flock to watch.

Tenacious D

Tenacious D
Here is another one that we are befuddled if they really qualify. Jack Black and Kyle Gass basically are fictionalized versions of themselves and have essentially created “Mock Rock” where their over the top guitar solos and theatrical singing is a parody and tribute to Rock and Roll. What started as a comedic rock goof led to a television show, a movie, three albums and tours, though when they perform as JB and KG, how fictitious is this really?   Although when we watched their 2006 film, “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny”, we can argue that it is pretty fictional indeed. Again, we are glad that the decision is yours on this one.

Tammy "Sister" Anderson

Tammy Sister Anderson
From the Sparkle remake in 2012, we felt that Carmen Ejogo gave a great performance as the talented, yet tortured singer, Tammy “Sister” Anderson. Ejoko got to her flex not only her singing chops but her acting range, and we wonder if the film was not mostly known for being Whitney Houston’s last role, if Ejoko would not have received the attention she deserved.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Sparkle (2012)

Actor:
Carmen Ejogo

Songs you might remember:
Hooked on Your Love

Why you should vote for her:
Ejogo was amazing in this role, and probably should have received more attention.

Why you should not vote for her:
The character had a depressing run, which resulted in the fictional music world not seeing her live up to her potential.
