Hep Alien

Hep Alien
We may have not been a huge fan of the Gilmore Girls (seriously, did you ever notice that everyone at the show talks in the same rapid cadence?) but the show did give us a solid candidate in Hep Alien. Formed by Lanie Kim, the band would perform cover songs and would eventually play Seventh Day Adventist Churches and have former Skid Row front man, Sebastian Bach play a role in the band. This might be a dark horse candidate; providing fans of the Gilmore Girls visit our website.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
The Gilmore Girls (2000-07)

Actors:
Keiko Agena (Lane Kim, Drums)
Adam Brody (Dave Rygalski, Guitar)
Brian Fuller (John Cabrera, Bass)
Todd Lowe (Zack Van Gerbig, Guitar and Vocals)
Gil (Sebastian Bach, Guitar)

Songs you might remember:
Multiple Covers

Why you should vote for them:
This was a well like part of a successful show.

Why you should not vote for them:
Were they really any good?

Donna and the Dynamos

Donna and the Dynamos
ABBA has not had a hit for decades, but their music (and pardon the cliché) has stood the test of time. Former member, Benny Anderson, put together a Broadway musical with ABBA’s music as the backdrop and it became a smash hit. Naturally when you have a major success on the “Great White Way” you try to figure out what to do next, and Hollywood came calling.

This entry showcases the film’s version, which features acting legend Meryl Streep, Julie Christie and Christine Baranski who were once “Donna and the Dynamos”, who are reunited through Streep’s character’s daughters wedding. Mamma Mia was a phenomenon but does a bunch of covers deserve a Hall of Fame entry?

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Mamma Mia! (2008)

Actors:
Meryl Streep (Donna Carmichael)
Julie Walters (Rosie Mulligan)
Christine Baranski (Tanya Chesham-Leigh)

Songs you might remember:
ABBA covers

Why you should vote for them:
ABBA remains huge, and this was a decent film adaptation.

Why you should not vote for them:
What did really see of Donna and the Dynamos?

The Bang Bang

Bang Bang The
Is it safe to argue that the “Bang Bang” are the best fictitious 1970’s British Punk band that are fronted by conjoined twins?   That said, we wonder how well that the aforementioned band from the 2005 mockumentary, Brothers of the Head will do on this ballot. At the very least, it is one of the more unique entries on the ballot.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Brothers of the Head (2005)

Actor:
Luke Treadaway (Barry Howe)
Harry Treadaway (Tom Howe)

Songs you might remember:
Two Way Romeo

Why you should vote for them:
How unique is this entry?

Why you should not vote for them:
As unique as it was, how many people saw this?

Open 24 Hours

Open 24 HoursIn the quintessential (though one and done) early 1980’s Sitcom, Square Pegs, we had New Wave aficionado and budding superstar in the genre, Johnny Slash, who put together his own band, Open 24 Hours. Of note, they played Muffy Tepperman’s (Jami Gertz) Bat Mitzvah (where Devo opened for them) and had John Densmore of the Doors as their drummer.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Square Pegs (1982-83)

Actors:
Merritt Butrick (Johnny Slash)
John Densmore

Songs you might remember:
I’m Tired

Why you should vote for them:
Music was a big part of this show, and an actual Door? Come on!

Why you should not vote for them:
Any TV Show that is one and done is a struggle to induct.
