Jack Wilson

Jack Wilson
Jack Wilson had a few good seasons with the Pittsburgh Pirates, one of which saw him participate in the All Star Game and earn Silver Slugger honors. Wilson had a decent career overall, and once led the National League in Triples and twice in Sacrifice Hits. He also was more than an above average defender, leading the NL in Defensive bWAR in 2005. Wilson, whose career bWAR was 23.5, likely won’t receive a vote for the Hall of Fame, but did contribute for a few years in the dark days of the Pirates organization.

Hideki Matsui

Hideki MatsuiNicknamed “Godzilla”, Hideki Matsui came to the New York Yankees after ten stellar seasons in Japan, where he was an All Star nine times and a three time champion with the Yomiyuri Giants. Matsui was not as productive in the United States, but he did more than help the Yankees with the 2009 World Series, where he was named the Fall Classic’s MVP. Matsui’s numbers were actually significantly higher in post season play, though he did not do enough in the U.S. to be considered a serious Hall of Fame candidate.
