“The Ultimate” Warrior

“The Ultimate” Warrior

There has been a lot of negativity surrounding the Ultimate Warrior, and honestly a lot of it is justified. His detractors point to his lack of wrestling ability and incoherent interviews. They are right, as the vast majority of his matches were not wrestling clinics and more often than not, you really didn’t have a clue what he was talking about. With all of that said, there was a huge population of wrestling fans that made the Ultimate Warrior one of the most popular wrestlers of the late 80’s and early 90’s.

The Ultimate Warrior wrestled like a mad man and if professional wrestling is pure escapism, The Ultimate Warrior certainly appealed to that demographic because he just seemed more extraordinary than anyone else. He was built like a tank and though he may not have been the biggest, he looked like the strongest. Even with the old gimmick of face paint and just basic trunks, the Warrior looked like he came from an alternate future; he just seemed out of this world.

Stamford may have put out a DVD extolling his deficiencies, but you don’t put out a project like that on someone who never mattered. As for induction into the Hall; there has been a lot of talk about putting him in and this could very well happen sooner than later.
