The bulk of those who are aware of Talk Talk probably are aware of them from their early Synth Pop recordings (and perhaps by No Doubt’s cover of It’s My Life). Beyond that, lay a band whose constant progression left a solid catalogue which in retrospect is a brilliant retrospective of the times they recorded (1981-1991). Those who have experienced all of their work view them as an accomplished complete group as opposed to a blip on the musical radar.

Talk Talk were brilliant, and their reclusive leader Mark Hollis is a musical genius. Granted, the band's music got stranger towards the end, but no less captivating than their earlier stuff. However, their commercial success was pretty much limited to the UK, as their commercial success in the States was pretty much limited to one hit song, It's My Life (and No Doubt's cover version, of course). Talk Talk coulda-woulda-s houlda been a bigger band, their music really is THAT good. They also have their loyal fans, and some bands name them as an influence too. But they never dominated, and one lone hit in America does not a Hall Of Fame induction make.
