243. The Flying Burrito Brothers

Once again the NIHOF committee found itself debating the merits of a group with no real hit and a limited discography. Regardless, the Flying Burrito Brothers helped to set the groundwork for the Country Rock movement proving that the combination could be successful and paved the way for other artists to come.

Nowadays, bands featuring Country Rock fusion are commonplace but when Gram Parsons and Chris Hillman left The Byrds to form the Flying Burrito Brothers, the music they created really did not create much of a following; although it did within music circles. Fans included Bob Dylan and the Rolling Stones; the latter borrowing a lot of the Country Rock style in later work. The general public really didn’t discover their music until the death of Gram Parsons in 1973. Although their run was brief the work they created was seen in the Eagles years later and in Alternative Country acts that would follow.
