90. Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine

We will be honest as we really don’t understand the appeal of Gloria Estefan in the Latin community.  It isn’t that we don’t think she is talented, nor is it that we don’t recognize that she has had a long string of hits.  What we never really heard (with the exception of her first hit, Conga) was any chart hit that had a Latin feel.  Of course, we also never heard a Gloria Estefan song that we didn’t find painfully dull.

Of course, painfully dull does not mean painfully bad.  The exception in her forgettable catalogue is “1-2-3”, another of her long list of Adult Contemporary dentist chair music.  Rather than be like the rest of her hits (we are excluding Conga which is a guilty pleasure) and simply fade in the background, “1-2-3” just sounds like repetitive nursery school counting and sticks in your mind like that winter cold you can’t shake.  Overall, just a horrible song.
