Sometimes we think that the key to a hit song is just come up with some annoying beat, lyrics that require no thought and just repeat those two formulas as many times as you can in three minutes.  This toxic formula worked for Toni Basil who used this form of regurgitation on a British song called “Kitty” and put her spin on things.  This is where things get interesting.  Basil decided to put a little cheerleading spin based on her past as a cheerleader in high school.  Now, Basil may have been (and still is) a talented choreographer but at no time was she ever a cheerleader.  There is nothing quite like a recapturing a past you never had.  Basil at this time was near forty and with soft lights in tow she set out to make a video.  Basil showed off her dancing and choreography in the video but this was never her issue.  The problem was making her rapidly approaching middle age look palatable.  Well, the best way to look attractive is to surround yourself with uglier people.  For the video, Basil essentially cast a group of wide shouldered trannies as her backup cheerleaders.  At least she made a video as bad as the song, so points for consistency!
