There will always be the Bubblegum genre in music. If you think about it, it may be the longest lasting musical style in popular music, for as long there has been a radio, there has been deliberately cheesy songs. With that said, is it possible to take even this harmless musical style too far? When looking at Europe’s Aqua, we believe the answer is a resounding yes.
Just how do you to describe a song about being a “Barbie Girl” in any positive way? It is not like it is a metaphor for skinny, surgically enhanced women in California; it is actually about the Mattel doll. Coincidentally, Mattel actually sued Aqua over the song though there has been no word yet of listeners will receive punitive damages for having to listen to this crap.
