The Hall of Fame List

In response to the Kraftwerk debate, while we have them at #1 this year, we may not necessarilly have them at #1 next year. As we intend for this site to be interactive, comments against them (as well as for them) are taken into consideration and based on the trend so far, we are not sure if they will net the #1 slot in 2011.

JMB you are the kind of fan that the hall should be listening to. I think we all have reservations about having to shape our own decisions around what direction the hall seems to be moving towards even if it is distasteful! I think your choices are very good but you have brought up a very significant point which we seem to bash around often in here, What is Rock? Maybe the hall should base their criteria on what music was banned or considered punishable by jail time in other countires at some point. That might shake them up a bit.

JMB,I was a big 80's metal fan myself. As we tried to figure out this list, a big part of what drove us, is just what the definiton of Rock even is anymore. Based on who they have in, we have to incorporate to some degree the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame vision.ie.....When Grandmaster Flash got in, it meant that Rap should not be ignored in any Rock HOF list. People may hate it, but it has lasted over twenty years, and it is a musical style that certainly has impact. As for Janet, she may very well get in. Although she i certainly more of a Pop icon, there are others like her (including her brother) who are in. We actually have her ranked fairly high.As for Ray Parker, if that hack ever gets in, i am slitting my wrists now. I will never understand the omission of Deep Purple. Other artists like them are in, and though Rush is ranked higher, there is only one real prog rock group in the Hall, which can explain the lack of love for Rush. Deep Purple not being in, makes not sense to me at all based on who is in already.

Thank you for the comment. OK, I get it. I was not even aware of this website until I came across a reference on YouTube. It is a good idea.As a Heavy Metal fan in my youth (80"s) I ran down the list looking for some names, like Dokken, Accept or Loudness; to my surprise most names are on your list; so I have to say it is very comprehensive. And I get the point on why A-Ha or Wham are on the list, the induction process over the years has become unpredictable so the pool of candidates has widened to some controversial areas for pure Rock'n'Roll fans. I "lived" Rock

JMB.....Sweet is on our list...... as for the others, we certainly look at our list as a fluctuating entity that does alter based on the opinion and votes of our readers. As for NKOTB....well, we are trying not to think about it.

The Rock'n'Roll list is a joke: Wham? A-Ha? Whitney Houston? etc; where are Triumph, Sweet, Saga, 10,000 Maniacs, 'Night Ranger, Ultravox, Planet P and a few more. Also if you go on the tangents to include Pop and Disco sounds on one side and in others you refer so often to success outside the USA the Jamaican Band "Bonney M" well deserves a place on that list. What other surprises you have for us next year? Vanilla Ice? New Kids on the Block? Backstreet Boys? Milli Vanilli?Even Rock bands are questionable, Come on, Flying Burritos? It is an exaggeration to think this band made a bigger contribution or influenced others more than the ones mentioned above.

Upon further review I believe that the group who is most deserving to be in the hall and is not is the Sweet Sisters from Seattle. Ann and Nancy have impacted more artists than any other in the last 35 years! They opened the doors for so many more females to try and hang with the big boys in the real arena of rock. They may have got a little soft in the 80's but their 70's work matches with the best of the pure rock genre. Ever. Technical yet innovative and a legacy that will last forever. And ironically though they have impacted basically every woman artist since no one has been able to match what they did. Name another artist or group who has both a iconic lead singer who's voice is legendary and one of the best guitarists ever in the same group. and both are female. The HEART and soul of this legendary band is two ladies who know how to rock and can hang with any duo that leads a group from Jagger and Richards to Plant and Page ever. And man thye can still rock. Go see them sometime and wathc them cover some of Zeppelin's stuff. Nobody else even tries that and they make it their own. I love RUSH and Alice but these ladies need to go in before you do.
