Casper, We will definitely be looking into the older era when we unveil our next list. As for Maris, there is no argument from our end (and i believe we say so on our Roger Maris page) that his overall career numbers are not HOF material. What he did have is a season that still remains in the public conscious which gives him a human element that a career log can't give. Agreed, if he never set the Home Run record, over Ruth, he wouldn't be considered...but he did. It is a similar struggle we have with Paul Henderson in Hockey.Regardless, we always intended to be an interactive site, so i can't see how Maris won't drop in the next list. Yours is not the first comment regarding Maris that we received, and there is certainly a lot of validation in that argument.Also, we might actualy grow our list to 250 next year. This is not to say that we think that all of those players whould be in....we don't....but it is the creation of debates like these that we relish in...and any chance to remember a lot of players (who were damned good but maybe not HOF material) still seems like a lot of fun!!!

Barry Larkin in particular is one of the biggest snubs although he should be getting in for sure in 2012 or 2013, if not 2011. Tim Raines seems to have done well this year also, according to early projections. Agreed that your list really seemed to skip over the 19th Century a bit too much. For the record, that list I just posted extends to nearly 150 names. And your #10, Roger Maris isn't one of them. The guy has also received virtually zero votes (if not actually zero) in Baseball Fever's HOF and the Hall of Merit over at Baseball Think Factory. The guy doesn't even have much of a case if you're just looking at traditional metrics and counting stats. Honestly, looking at the Hall in Cooperstown, nobody should really have a list greater than 50 of names that warrant omission. But this site having missed out on certain players in the above group of 40 that I just listed is pretty unforgivable because, again, there really aren't that many close calls. Players like Guidry, Blue & Colavito shouldn't even enter into the discussion.

Where exactly on Baseball Fever does this queue come from? Is this one member's opinion? I don't recall any rankings polls like this. I do like the list, but considering how most of Fever's HOF votes and polls include Negro and Japanese league players, I am wondering where they are.I, for one, do appreciate how you're being proactive here. It's so easy just to tear down lists and let it go at that. Opening the doors for further research is a great thing.

We love the research aspect of it....that's for sure... Hopefully, when we complete are baseball revisions, you will like what we do with it as we are certainly taking notes received here in consideration.

Knuckles, the project where that list emanates from is the Ultimate Quest For Candidates over in the Hall of Fame section at Baseball Fever. Those results were arrived at about three years ago.

Hmm, I vaguely recall that. But then we do so many projects in the forum. I'll have to look for it.Ok, I went back and found it. I didn't participate in that project, which only means that, I did not participate. More knowledgable people than I did. I am interested in seeing how things turn out with the new go around.

Here's a suggestion for you on your next list... drop your #9 guy off the list, or at least signifigantly lower than he is now. You say Larkin had no major weaknesses. That may be true, but he also had no major strengths, so he was basically just an average player. Average players don't make the hall of fame. Plus, isn't there another guy who played for the Reds that has been waiting longer and has much better numbers? I happen to recall that he was banned for life or something like that...

Bonds was a HOF-player. If he does not get in, I won't have a problem. If he does get in, I hope it is because the understanding of PEDs is a lot better than summarial dismissal without attempting to find out any facts.Vizquel is a fine defensive shortstop who has played long enough to accumulate a lot of hits. He put up Aparicio offensive numbers in an era when shortstop had transformed into a top hitting position for many teams. He never had great range, nor was he ever a top assist guy. I would have to give him a thumbs down, but he does have a case.
