36. Del Shofner

Del Shofner was a two-time First Team All-Pro in the four seasons he was with the Los Angeles Rams, but the restructuring Rams traded their star to the New York Giants for a First Round Pick in 1961.  The Rams would draft Roman Gabriel, but the Giants did just fine with their end of the deal.

The Giants also obtained Niners Quarterback, Y.A. Tittle, and the pair was one of the most potent tandems in the East. Shofner had at least 1,100 Receiving Yards in his first three years in New York, where he was at least in the top four in Yards, and he had 32 Touchdowns in that timeframe.  In all of those three years, Shofner was a Pro Bowl, First Team All-Pro, and he was a large part of the Giants making the Championship Game, although New York lost all three games.  Shofner’s 1962 season was especially impressive, as he suffered a separated shoulder that should have kept him out at least six weeks but only lost one week of action.

The mounting injuries caught up with him in 1964, and he was a fraction of what he was in his last four years in football. Shofner retired with 4,315 Receiving Yards and 35 Touchdowns.
