An eighth round pick in 2007, Matt Moore was called up late in 2011 and was called up late in 2011. He only played three Games for Tampa that regular season, he was on the post-season roster, winning a game in the playoffs.
Moore was in the starting rotation in 2012 and 2013, going 11-11 in 2012, but improved significantly in '13. The southpaw had an All-Star year, going 17-4 with a 3.29 ERA. The Cy Young voters rewarded him with a ninth place finish. The hope was that Moore could build on that, but Tommy John surgery kept him out of most of 2014 and a chunk of 2015, and he wasn’t the same after that. He was traded to the Sa Francisco Giants during the 2016 season, and he left the Rays with a record of 39-28.
