Willie Mays Hayes
For the record, this induction is for ONLY the Wesley Snipes version in Major League and not the Omar Epps portrayal in Major League 2. This is not a shot at Epps, who was an excellent choice for many sports movies, but following the charismatic Snipes was nearly impossible.

As Willie “Mays” Hayes, Snipes’ character may not have been essential to move the plot along, but he brought a cool factor that the movie may not have had otherwise. Hayes was a dynamic leadoff hitter with swagger (before anyone knew what that word was) with great one-liners throughout. The best statement we can say is that ML2 suffered a lot by not having Snipes repeat the role, although we do have to say one thing….we have a hard time believing that Hayes, could never hit the long ball!

This selection allows Hayes to join fellow Cleveland Indian, Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughn into the Hall.

The Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame is pleased to welcome Willie “Mays” Hayes into the Class of 2017.

White Goodman

White Goodman
Although you were supposed to detest White Goodman, Ben Stiller played it so over the top, that though you still wanted him to lose, you did not want to see him leave the screen, because he was so damned entertaining. Goodman gave his interpretation of what he thought masculinity and male virility should be in a Napoleonic package. We would not be surprised to see Goodman as one of the first Sports Villains in our Hall.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story (2004)

Actor:
Ben Stiller

Played for:
Globo Gym

Why you should vote for him:
This could be one of the funniest villains in Sports History.

Why you should not vote for him:
White lost at the end to a guy who was blindfolded! Only Luke Skywalker should have been able to pull that off.

Warren Coolidge

Warren Coolidge
The undisputed star player of Carver, Warren Coolidge was the towering Center whose size and skills made him a favorite of Coach Reeves, but his laziness also made him a constant target. Most of our favorite episodes of the White Shadow; especially the ones where his naivety showed through, leading some of the program’s funnier moments.   Coolidge was the only character we got to learn anything concrete about after his Carver High days, as he appeared as an orderly in St. Elsewhere and learned that his pro dreams never did materialize. Wait, if Coolidge was on St. Elsewhere, does that mean that Carver High was just a small part of the “Tommy Westphal Universe”?

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
The White Shadow (1978-1981)
St. Elsewhere (1984-1988)

Actor:
Byron Stewart

Position Portrayed:
Center

Why you should vote for him:
He was the star player on one of the greatest sports shows ever.

Why you should not vote for him:
As the star player, he was not always the star attraction.

Walter Sobchak

Walter Sobchak
Possibly the angriest man on the ballot, Walter Sobchak (John Goodman) had no problem pulling out a gun when needed, referencing everything back to his time in Vietnam and sticking to the rules of bowling. Is this the staple of a Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame? Depending on your love of this cult film, he just might be.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
The Big Lebowski (1998)

Actor:
John Goodman

Why you should vote for him:
If you saw him, you remembered him. Not everyone on this ballot can say that.

Why you should not vote for him:
Athletic competition plays a small role here.
