Alice Bowie

Alice Bowie
At the end of Cheech & Chong’s first film, the stoned out duo performed and won a “Battle of the Bands” as “Alice Bowie”, a name that was an obvious amalgamation of Alice Cooper and David Bowie; two of the biggest names in music at the time. The song was actually a minor hit years earlier for Cheech and Chong, and actually was a decent way to show Cheech’s musical skills.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Up in Smoke (1978)

Actors:
Tommy Chong & Cheech Marin

Songs you might remember:
Earache My Eye

Why you should vote for them:
Comedians who can actually play music are rare.

Why you should not vote for them:
This was not much of a fictitious band.

Aldous Snow

Aldous Snow
We did not see much of his music in Forgetting Sarah Marshall, but Russell Brand stole scene after scene as the eccentric Rock Star, Aldous Snow.   In his own vehicle, “Get Him to the Greek”, we see him after his disastrous single “African Child” turns him into a laughing stock of the music industry and a young record executive (Jonah Hill) comes up with the idea to resurrect his career by performing at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles in a tenth anniversary show of his legendary concert there. Of course, you have to “Get Him to the Greek” which of course elicited hilarious results.   We think we have a serious candidate here, though if we go by “African Child” we might foresee some difficulty.

The Bullet Points:
Movies Appeared:
Forgetting Sarah Marshall (2008)
Get Him to the Greek (2010)

Actor:
Russell Brand

Songs you might remember:
African Child

Why you should vote for him:
This is one of the funniest performances on the ballot.

Why you should not vote for him:
His signature song was horrific.

Alcatraaaz

Alcatraaaz
Like so many suburban white pre-teens, Bart Simpson became enamored with the world of Rap Music resulting in him sneaking out to attend the Murder 4 Life tour starring Alcatraaaz. Bart actually raps on stage, meets 50 Cent (playing himself) and in scenarios that only happen in Springfield has Alcatraaaz and his entourage draw their guns at Principal Skinner only to have the rapper calm everything down by initiating a House Party. I thin the same thing happened to us when we were ten years old.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
The Simpsons (2005)

Actors:
We aren’t sure who voiced Alcatraaaz

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for him:
He was the headliner of a major Hip Hop tour.

Why you should not vote for him:
Wasn’t 50 Cent more memorable than Alcatraaaz in this episode?

The Alabama Porch Monkeys

The Alabama Porch Monkeys
As much as we love the Roots, we can’t say that the Spike Lee film, “Bamboozled” was the best use of their talents. As the house band of the “New Millennium Minstrel Show”, the Roots performed in striped prison uniforms with a ball and chains shackled to their ankles. Basically, this was little more than a cameo, and not a great one at that.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Bamboozled (2000)

Actors:
The Roots

Songs you might remember:
Nothing of note

Why you should vote for him them:
There are very few on this ballot with more musical talent.

Why you should not vote for them:
That talent was not shown in this film.
