Georgia Flood

Georgia Flood
In an Oscar nominated performance, Mare Winningham was the titular character (though not the lead) of Georgia Flood, a successful folk singer. Her music was good, though she was not the tragic figure that so many celluloid musicians are shown as; that was her sister (Jennifer Jason Leigh). She was the adjusted happy one, and the dynamic with her troubled sister was far more interesting then the music she had in the film.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Georgia (1995)

Actor:
Mare Winningham

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for her:
This in Oscar nominated performance; there aren’t that many of them here.

Why you should not vote for her:
She was a successful musician; but it was the music of her sister that we saw more of.

George Webber

George Webber
Dudley Moore finally struck gold in his early 40’s as the lead in Blake Edwards’ “10”. He played composer, George Webber, who at the onset of his 42nd birthday acquired the midlife crisis, which sets the film in motion. The movie gave us the iconic scene with Bo Derek in cornrows, made Dudley Moore an instant sex symbol (and hero for short average looking men), but it did not give us any insight into Webber’s music which though was irrelevant to the film, is relevant here.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
10 (1979)

Actor:
Dudley Moore

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for him:
Dudley was great in this film; actually, this may have been his best work.

Why you should not vote for him:
The fact that he was a composer was irrelevant to the movie.

The Gentlemen Callers

Gentlemen Callers The
There was no way we couldn’t include this after Bryan Cranston’s performance in Breaking Bad which could be the greatest television show in history. In a 2003 episode, Hal (Cranston) and his African American Poker buddies form a folk style band where they play the Elk Lodge. We don’t remember why it occurred, but it was humorous which was what you would expect from a Hal plotline on Malcolm in the Middle.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Malcolm in the Middle (2003)

Actors:
Bryan Cranston (Hal)
We don’t know who else

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for them:
Only for the Breaking Bad reason.

Why you should not vote for them:
They were not good.

Gemini's Twin

Geminis Twin
Appearing multiple times over a two year stretch on Saturday Night Live Gemini’s Twin was a humorous play off then popular act, Destiny’s Child. Played by two of the funniest females in SNL history (Ana Gasteyer and Maya Rudolph), most of their sketches showcased their “third member” who seemed to differ depending on who the guest host was.   Considering the lineup and that it lasted two years, this isn’t a bad SNL candidate, though we admit there are stronger choices from the show.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
Gemini’s Twin (2000-02)

Actors:
Ana Gasteyer (Joanette)
Maya Rudolph (Brittanica)

People who have played the “third member”
Charlize Theron
Lucy Liu
Jennifer Lopez
Beyonce Knowles
Gwyneth Paltrow
Britney Spears

Songs you might remember:
Planet of Mens

Why you should vote for them:
Gasteyer (who should have become a bigger star) and Rudolph were great, and Maya really has a set of pipes on her.

Why you should not vote for them:
They had a seven sketch run, but was this really a breakout act?
