Cashing in on the Bubblegum/Cartoon theme, we have a spin off of a spin off (that of course originated with the Archies), called the Groovie Goolies. Everything follows the standard early 70’s Hanna Barbara blueprint, but this time the band comprises with the traditional movie monsters, Dracula, Frankenstein and the Werewolf who were modernized for our pleasure. You know, the more we think of it, the more we like animation of our youth better! It was far more fun! A huge Rock Star whose dark lyrics and general indifference to everything was his trademark, Grivo traded it all in when he took the happiness drug and would actually win an MTV Award with “Happiness Pie”. Brassed Off was not expected to be a hit, but it proved to be very successful and profitable in England. The film struck a chord (no pun intended) with the British working class, as the plot took place in a depressed town whose mine was facing a shut down. Musically, the key members of the film played in a Brass Band, which was prominently featured. Now does a British Brass Band belong into a Rock Hall? The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Brassed Off (1996) Actors: Pete Postlethwaite (Danny) Ewan McGregor (Andy) Tara Fitzgerald (Gloria) Stephen Tompkinson (Phil) Songs you might remember: Danny Boy Why you should vote for them: Finding better acting will be difficult on this ballot. With a pre “B.J. and the Bear” Greg Evigan and a pre “David Letterman Show” Paul Shaffer, we have a television show that nobody asked for. Greg and Paul made a pact with the devil to have “A Year at the Top” as popular musicians. As you can imagine, the show was a mess, and the writers clearly did not sell their soul to the devil to get a hit show as it lasted only five episodes. Of course, both managed to have successful careers anyway. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: A Year at the Top (1977) Actors: Greg Evigan Paul Shaffer Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for them: Letterman + Cheese = Your Vote? Why you should not vote for them: The 1970’s was full of horrible television and if this could not last five episodes, how bad was this show!
