This could be one of the most interesting Rap debates for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Shania Twain may not be thought of us a Rock Star, but often it is hard to really peg her as a Country Star either. Shania Twain was at her best when she ventured into Pop with a Country flavor and as such she became a massive figure in popular music. Her success was so big that she despite not having recorded any material in over a decade she could still do an arena tour today without supporting a new album. She inspired many a crossover artist. It may not be Rock impact, but it is an impact on popular music. People have gotten into the Hall for less than that.
There have been many who have fans and critics who have felt that Rancid was the second coming of the Clash. That is high praise and big shoes to fill but it is easy to see how there were parallels between the two bands.
If you look back through old music magazines in 1993, you would have seen many proclaim Liz Phair as the next big phenom. This didn’t exactly happen as her career never really lived up to the major hype that surrounded her. Regardless, her debut effort was very strong and was an inspiration to many female Alt based Singer/Songwriters. With her losing that buzz that made her critical darling she doesn’t have the overall resume that the Hall would look for; ironic considering that those same people in the Hall would have pegged her as a first ballot inductee in 1993.
