Although she is very much in the large shadow of her deceased husband, the Notorious B.I.G. (no pun intended), Faith Evans was an accomplished artist in her own right. From her beginnings as a session singer, Evans was always writing songs. When she finally received the chance to sing her material, it proved to be among the better R&B efforts of the time. Faith Evans has proven to be a true musician from the beginning to end process, but she may not have done enough to get inducted. Even if she does, the shadow of Biggie will loom over any potential induction.
At present, it would be hard pressed to find a Spanish singer who has more success than Enrique Iglesias. In fact, you may have to back to his famous father Julio Iglesias, to find anyone who has done as well with the Spanish speaking market than Enrique. As you can figure, the bulk of his success has been in Spanish, but this is not to say that Enrique has not struck gold in English with his Latin flavored Pop. The chances are good that Enrique Iglesias will have continued success in the decade leading up to his induction but the odds are that this is not the style of music that will net him an induction.
To call the Deftones simply a Nu-Metal band is an injustice. Although they are rooted in Metal and started off with a Nu-Metal vibe, Deftones are one of the most experimental and musically aware outfits and they can use any kind of style and give a Hard Rock edge. Their discography shows a constant progression and there is no reason to think that the next fifteen years won’t show the same. This is the type of band that should receive a look from the Hall, but chances are they won’t even receive that.
D’Angelo was at the forefront of what was called the Neo-Soul movement, which was basically inputting the Classic Soul sound into modern R&B and Hip Hop. D’Angelo was a throwback in many ways as he was a true artist who sang and penned his own material. The issue here is that in the last fifteen years he has done very much. With only two albums and a handful of singles he has a lot of work to do in the upcoming years to reestablish his momentum.
