Generally, novelty acts are always laughing with us at the joke they created. Tiny Tim was a very successful performer in the late 60’s, though in looking back there seems to be little evidence that he was ever in on the joke that he had become.
Perhaps he was completely aware of how he was perceived, and for awhile he was making serious coin as a high falsetto singing eccentric goofball who sang old standards. Still, there is only so far you can go with that without people tiring of you, and labeling you in a negative way for life. This has rendered his lone top 40 hit, a high pitched warble of “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” as a forgotten joke of the era. As the people of the late 60’s (likely hopped up on God knows what) ate that crap, they would later wise up a few years later and completely deny that the ghoulish looking freak had any appeal. Regardless, it is now commonly known through many generations for what it is….crap.
