Loving You
Highest Billboard Position:
#1 in 1975

Can you be completely impressed, yet disturbed at the same time?  We ask this rhetorical question when listening to Minnie Riperton’s lone number one hit, “Loving You”.  If you have heard it, you have to be impressed with Riperton’s seemingly 1,000 octave range, yet somewhat befuddled by the high pitches she can perform.  Her song is an ode to love of her child and though the sentiment is strong, we are sure that it is the sappiest song ever heard on the AM dial.  Along with Riperton’s high register notes was the use of chirping birds, basically making this the first lullaby to hit number one.  This song has essentially become the anthem for female stalkers (who misunderstood the lyrics) singing this song to scared men.  Yes we know the intention of this song is very sweet, but frankly it makes us want to throw up.
