Dick Butkus to become the inaugural inductee to the Illini HOF

Regular visitors to Notinhalloffame.com know that we are methodically working on our Top 50 players of all time for each major North American Franchise. Eventually, this will lead to how each team recognizes their past players/executives in respective Halls of Fame, Retired Numbers, Rings of Honor, etc…
What will we eventually get to is the major Universities and their respective Halls of Fame.
As such, it is news to us that the University of Illinois has finally decided to have an Athletic Hall of Fame and that former defensive football standout, Dick Butkus, will be the inaugural inductee.
Born in Chicago, Butkus played for the Fighting Illini from 1962 to 1964 playing both Center and Linebacker. He would become a two time All-American (1963 & 1964) and would win the Knute Rockne Award in both of those years. His other accolades include winning the Big Ten Player f the Year and a sixth place finish in Heisman Trophy balloting.
For his contributions to the College Game, he was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1983 and the Butkus Award is given annually to the top Linebacker in College. His number was also retired by the University of Illinois.
While Butkus was named the inaugural inductee it was mentioned by the University that there will be more chosen for the first class, however no concrete number was given.
The official ceremony will be on September 29-30, the weekend where the Illini will host the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the Big 10 Home Opener.

Jon Bon Jovi talks about his RRHOF snub

Bon Jovi is one of the most successful rock bands of all time, there is no denying that. Around since the early 1980’s, this is a band that can still sell out an arena tour so you would think they would have garnered more attention from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Apart from a lone nomination in 2011, there have been no signs that they have been considered since. As you might expect, this might stick in the craw of the bands leader, Jon Bon Jovi. In an interview today with Howard Stern, he indicated just that.
When asked by Stern about the band’s omission from the Rock Hall, Bon Jovi stated that he had “bad blood between one of the guy’s running the Rock Hall”:
“I called him a few choice words and I'm never shy, when I see him, to call him a few more choice words…And there's other guys on that thing that have made it their personal mission to f*** with me. And that's okay. I get it. I've sold more records than their artists."
The rocker did not state which person it was, but the common guess is that it is one of two people; Rock and Roll Hall of Fame President, Joel Peresmen or Rolling Stone’s Jann Wenner, who is the Chairman and Founder of the Hall.
The snub of Bon Jovi could very well be a long one. Kiss waited over fifteen years to get in, and they too famously had a beef with Wenner.
In all likelihood, Bon Jovi will eventually get in, and probably should. We have a feeling they are going to make them wait for it.

Former Pearl Jam Drummer, Dave Abbruzzese discusses his potential omission from the Rock Hall

Isn’t always the way that when a band gets inducted (or in this case, nominated) that there is discussion as to which member of the band should get in?
That is what is going on a former drummer, Dave Abbruzzese ranted on his official Facebook page about his exclusion from a potential Pearl Jam induction:
“…just a fine opportunity to see what [the group] has to say in response. Let's see if they do the right thing. It'll be interesting to see the spin that is put on it. That band and its management have never been ones to shy away when an injustice is done. Let's see if they still have the courage to fight the good fight!"
I've seen them change a 15-year-old settlement agreement just by ignoring its contents and withholding money that didn't belong to them in order to force me to accept the changes. They know how to play the game… their way!...The members of PEARL JAM have got to know what's the right thing to do. They can't justify ignoring my contributions. Like me or not."
We have to assume as he was solicited with media requests as he would post additionally on his Facebook page and clarify his comments:
"I am requesting that the media please refrain from attempting to make a negative story out of this.
I am not slamming the Hall Of Fame or PEARL JAM. I understand that there may be some flaws inherent to the balloting process.
I reacted emotionally, and my reaction was based on a lack of understanding.
I have spoken to friends and peers and I am resolved to wait patiently to watch and see how it works out.
I am not looking to ruffle any feathers. I am not angry with the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame or PEARL JAM."
Hmmmm.
If Abbruzzese is upset, he might have a bit of a claim. While his tenure with the band was only three years, that was the stint between 1991 to 1994, an era where they were on top of the alt world. He would join the band for the Ten tour and played on Vs. and Vitalogy replacing Matt Chamberlain, who actually will be inducted should the band get in. He would be fired following a falling out with the rest of the band. It was alleged that Abbruzzese was more of a partying rock star and less serious than his bandmates who were then in the midst of their fight with Ticketmaster.
It is worth noting that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame dispensed with their usual pattern of announcing which members of an inducted band would be inducted AFTER the group was chosen.
Was the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame correct in omitting Abbruzzese?

Arian Foster Retires

It did not receive a lot of fanfare, but a former Rushing Champion has announced his immediate retirement from the National Football League.
Miami Dolphins Running Back, Arian Foster, retired via Uninterrupted (on Twitter) that he will be walking away from the game. This is not exactly a huge shock as a torn Achilles tendon last October. Following that, he was released from the Houston Texans and was used sparingly with the Miami Dolphins where he only rushed for 55 Yards on 22 Carries.
While Foster went out with a whimper, his sophomore season established him as the top Running Back in the NFL and made the Houston Texans a must watch team. Foster led the NFL in Rushing Yards, Rushing Touchdowns and Yards From Scrimmage. He would earn First Team All Pro honors that year and go to his first Pro Bowl.
Arian Foster would never have a season like that again, however he would go to the Pro Bowl three more times, all of which were 1,000 Yard Seasons. Foster will retire with 6,527 Rushing Yards, 2,346 Receiving Yards and 66 Touchdowns.
Foster will be eligible for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2022, but he likely is not a serious contender. Still, Foster would make a good first or early inductee for the Houston Texans Ring of Honor.
