One of the greatest Running Backs of all-time, Franco Harris, passed away at the age of 72. Harris debuted in the professional ranks in 1972 for the Steelers, a team he didn’t have to travel far from as he was a star at Penn State.  The Running Back won the Offensive Rookie of the Year, going to the Pro Bowl and rushing for 1,055 Yards and 10 Touchdowns.  This was the year where Harris was the beneficiary of the "Immaculate Reception," as a still-debated play that saw the Steelers beat the Raiders in the playoffs.  Pittsburgh didn't win it all that year, but…

The Missouri Valley Conference has announced the latest Class for their Hall of Fame, which this year is comprised of six people. Andy Benes, Evansville, 1986-88, Baseball, Basketball & Football:  Benes was a three-sport superstar, but it was Baseball where he was at his best.  The Pitcher was the Conference Player of the Year in 1988, where he went 16-3 and won the Pitcher’s Triple Crown.  Named the NCAA Player of the Year, Benes went to have a good career in the Majors, throwing an even 2,000 Strikeouts with a 155-139 Record. RIP: Paul Silas

Sad news emerged from the basketball world as Paul Silas passed away at the age of 79. One of the most respected players of his generation, Silas was never a superstar, but a workmanlike power forward that was at his best coming off the bench and bringing the muscle to the court.  A great rebounder and defender, Silas was an integral part of three championship teams, two in Boston and one in Seattle, he was also a two-time All-Star.  A long career highlighted by being on winners and collecting over 12,000 rebounds, and the rebounding title while at Creighton.  Named to…
The Black College Football Hall of Fame announced the eight men who will comprise the 14th Class The ceremony will take place on June 10, but before that, they will be recognized at halftime during the second annual HBCU Legacy Bowl on February 25 in New Orleans. The Hall of Fame season continues, as Pat Hughes, became the 47th recipient of the Ford C. Frick Award, which is given annually for excellence in broadcasting. Hughes began doing Cubs radio in 1996, and has been the voice for nine playoff teams.  He beat out Dave Campbell, Joe Castiglione, Gary Cohen, Jacques Doucet, Tom Hamilton, Jerry Howarth, Ernie Johnson Sr., Duane Kuiper and Steve Stone, when the 15-member Committee chose him. The International Boxing Hall of Fame has announced the Class of 2023, which is headlined by a man who beat Manny Pacquiao, Timothy Bradley. Fighting in the Light Welterweight and Welterweight division, Bradley (33-2-1-1 13 KO) was a two-time WBO Light Welterweight Champion, WBO Welterweight Champion and WBO Light Welterweight Champion.  Best known for his trilogy against Pacquiao (winning one, losing two), Bradley’s 2013 win over Ruslan Provodnikov was named the Fight of the Year, which he followed up by a statement win over Juan Manuel Marquez.  He currently serves as an analyst for ESPN.
