We almost totally forgot about this one. Dazed and Confused became one of the great cult movies of all time and a was great look at American High School Life in 1976. As much as this was an ensemble effort, the only linking character to everyone was the returning Quarterback, Randall “Pink” Floyd. We never saw him play, but we were led to believe he was very good, based on his teammates’ passive efforts to hope he would sign the pledge not to do drugs or do anything detrimental to the greater good of going for a State Championship. Again, we state we never saw him on the field (unless it was drinking beer) and the only thing we saw him throw was the aforementioned pledge sheet (which was a nice tight spiral). We can say this much, this is the guy that almost everyone reading this would want to be friends with High School, and based on the way he came off, we all probably could. Now, can you vote for a fictitious athlete who didn’t seem to want play? The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Dazed and Confused (1986) Actor: Jason London Position Portrayed: Quarterback Played for: Lee H.S. Why you should vote for him: Tell me you didn’t want to be friends with this guy? Why you should not vote for him: For a star Quarterback, he did not seem to care about Football that much. {youtube}

Racki was your typical goon. He loved to hurt people; especially “pretty boys”. We can’t say that he was the best sports villain; but he was the one with the least amount of acting range. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Youngblood (1986) Actor: George Finn Position Portrayed: Goon Played for: Thunder Bay Bombers Why you should vote for him: He took out Swayze. No bar fighter who ever entered the Double Deuce could do that. Why you should not vote for him: He lost to Rob Lowe in a fist fight at the end. How does that happen?

The token morbidly obese guy might be better known for his role as “House” in two of the Police Academy films where jokes revolved around his 500 pound frame. Basically, he was brought in here to do the same, only in a sweater vest as a reluctant yet cerebral star of the o-line. It must have worked, because we remember his performance more than Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson who were in the same film. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Wildcats (1986) Actor: Tab Thacker Position Portrayed: Offensive Lineman Played for: Central HS Why you should vote for him: How about for the love of Police Academy? Why you should not vote for him: He was there only for fat jokes. {youtube}

Many critics and fans alike had issues with Adam Sandler taking on the role of convicted Quarterback, Paul “Wrecking” Crewe. Honestly, we understood it, as Burt Reynolds’ 1974 portrayal of the same role was one of the best roles of his career, and a great sports film. We won’t say that the Adam Sandler remake was as good, but the comedian did not try to replicate the Reynolds’ version as though the plot was the same, the tone and delivery were completely different, making it purely a Sandler vehicle. We actually meant that as a compliment, as we are referring to the earlier Sandler and not the “Jack and Jill” version he turned into. I guess what we are saying is that we were able to appreciate Sandler’s version (especially with the homage he paid to the original by having Reynolds in a great role as Nate Scarborough) and though he is a comedian who does not look like he can be athletic, actually is. Would it be so bad if both versions got into the Hall? Actually, I think this is a case where it could happen….but please Burt first! The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: The Longest Yard (2005) Actor: Adam Sandler Position Portrayed: Quarterback Played for: The Mean Machine Why you should vote for him: Sandler was better in the role than a lot of people thought he would have been. Why you should not vote for him: Like we said, the 74 version should get in first. {youtube}
