25. Gill Byrd

In terms of versatility, Gill Byrd is one of the greatest Defensive Backs in Chargers’ history.

A First Round Pick from San Jose State in 1983, Byrd played his entire ten-year career with the Chargers.  Byrd started 146 of the 149 Games he played, and he started his pro run as the starting Left Cornerback.  The Chargers moved him to Strong Safety in 1985, then to Free Safety in 1986, and then to Right Cornerback the following year.

In 1989, he moved back to the left side, where he finished his career for four years, back where he started.  This was arguably the best run of Byrd's career, where he was a Pro Bowl in his final two seasons, and he posted double-digits in Approximate Value.  He retired right after, with 42 Interceptions, which is the all-time record for the franchise.  Byrd entered their Hall of Fame in 1998.
