Nicknamed “Godzilla”, Hideki Matsui came to the New York Yankees after ten stellar seasons in Japan, where he was an All Star nine times and a three time champion with the Yomiyuri Giants. Matsui was not as productive in the United States, but he did more than help the Yankees with the 2009 World Series, where he was named the Fall Classic’s MVP. Matsui’s numbers were actually significantly higher in post season play, though he did not do enough in the U.S. to be considered a serious Hall of Fame candidate. The Bullet Points:

Guillermo Mota may have the dishonor of being one of the few players in Baseball history to be suspended twice for PED use, but the Middle Reliever was able to win the World Series in two of his last three seasons, which was spent with the San Francisco Giants.

Francisco Cordero

Francisco Cordero spent his entire Major League Baseball career as a Relief Pitcher and is one of the few hurlers to reach over 300 in Saves. Three times, Cordero was named to the All Star team and the fastball specialist finished second in Saves three times and was in the top five five times.

Chris Carpenter

Once Chris Carpenter oiled his trade with the St. Louis Cardinals, he became a bonafide ace. Carpenter captured the National League Cy Young Award in 2005 and was the runner up and second runner up for the Award in 2009 and 2006 respectively. The three time All Star was often decimated by injuries, which took away a large chunk of his career and forced him to an early retirement. With a career bWAR of 35.5 and realistically only three really good seasons, it is hard to make a strong case for Cooperstown.
