The Songwriters Hall of Fame has just announced their Nominees for their next year’s class, and much like the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who announced their 2015 nominees last week, it is a very diverse group of candidates.  Although we don’t have a Notinhalloffame list for the Songwriters Hall of Fame, it is an institution that we have respect for and will always take time to report on the actions of.

This year’s Performing Nominees are as follows:

Harry Wayne Casey, known as “K.C.” of K.C. and the Sunshine Band fame, a major staple of the Disco sound of the 1970’s.

Elvis Costello, who along with the Attractions was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2003.  Costello constantly appears in Rolling Stone “best of” lists.

Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, an occasional performer, but has written and produced 26 #1 Hits on the R&B charts.

Gloria Estefan, who is arguably the most successful Latin crossover star in American music history and has sold over 100 Million albums worldwide.

Vince Gill, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2007 and has charted 40 times on the Billboard Country Music charts.

Toby Keith, who has hit #1 on the Country Music charts 19 times.

Cyndi Lauper, who in the mid-1980’s became the first female artist to crack the top five with her first five singles.

Tom Petty, who was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2002 and has sold 80 million records worldwide.  Petty cracked the Billboard Singles charts 14 times.

Cat Stevens, who in the 1970’s was one of the premier Singer/Songwriters and a man who entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2014.

Ann & Nancy Wilson from Heart, who entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.

Steve Winwood, a versatile performer who entered the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 as a member of Traffic.  He had a very successful solo career in addition to his work with Traffic, The Spencer Davis Group and Blind Faith.

This year’s Non-Performing Nominees are as follows:

Bobby Braddock, Rudy Clark, Randy Edelman, Bob McDill, Linda Perry, William “Mickey” Stevenson, Rod Temperton, Allee Willis and the songwriting duos of Mike Chapman & Nicky Chinn, Sandy Linzer & Denny Randell, P.F. Sloan & Steve Barri and Robert Hunter & Jerry Garcia.

Whoever is chosen will be inducted in a ceremony in June in New York City.  We would like to congratulate this impress group for receiving this nomination.

We announced some time ago that we would not be doing a list for the World Golf Hall of Fame as their induction process was too lax for our liking.  Since that time, the Golf Hall announced that they would be revising their process, and today they announced their first induction class under the new system.

This year’s headliner is Mark O’Meara, a 16 time winner on the PGA Tour.  O’Meara won two Majors, the 1998 British Open and 1998 Masters, the year he was named the 1998 PGA Player of the Year.  In total, he won 34 tournaments as a professional.

Former LPGA star, Laura Davies will also be inducted.  Davies totaled 84 victories in her career, 20 of which were on the LPGA tour.  The Englishwoman won four majors and was actually two points shy of induction to the World Golf Hall of Fame under the previous system.

From Australia, 8 Time winner on the PGA Tour, David Graham also will be inducted.  Graham captured two Majors in his career, the PGA Championship in 1978 and the U.S. Open in 1981.

Noted architect, A.W. Tillinghast will also be included.  He designed Bethpage Black, Baltusrol and Winged Foot and many others that have been used in countless PGA events.  Tillinghast, one of the most respected designers of Golf’s “Golden Age” died in 1942.

The changes made by the Hall of Fame to their induction process included holding a ceremony on a biennial basis, a 16 person election committee that now needs to have 75 percent approval, and only categories to receive possible induction: Male, Female, Veteran’s and Lifetime Achievement.

We would like to congratulate the newest members of the World Golf Hall of Fame, and the Hall itself for recognizing the need to change.

As we embark upon into the depths of the Autumn season, we here at Notinhalloffame.com have a lot to prepare for.  In a few months, the Baseball Hall of Fame and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will announce their latest classes and shortly after the Basketball Hall of Fame will follow suit.  Our lists are all up to date, but that never stops us from continued expansion on our multiple websites.

We will be adding shortly additional players to the Hockey futures.  This will include those who will be eligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame soon, and those who will be likely retiring in the next few years.

The Basketball Futures are also set to be updated soon, looking at the next batch of potential players who might be considered Hall of Fame worthy.

We will also be adding the Football futures allowing you to vote and give your opinions on key players eligible for the Hall of Fame in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Our first full class of the Fictitious Athlete Hall of Fame will be announced on December 1st, the Semi Finalists for our new Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame will be unveiled on January 15th and hopefully soon after our look at the North American sports franchise and their respective Halls of Fame, Rings of Honor and retired numbers should be ready soon after.

As always, we would love to hear from you and learn what you would like to see next from us at Notinhalloffame.com!

A major apology is owed to all of you.

As you have seen, we have been very busy with the creation of our new Fictitious Athlete and Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fames, and for that matter the continued expansion of our core site.  That being said, the new logo for Notinhalloffame.com was actually done months ago, not that long after we asked all of you who it should replace KISS on the banner.

That informal questionnaire did not exactly result in any one artist who was the runaway winner.  In fact, it would be accurate to say that their was a bit of a ten way tie between Deep Purple, Jethro Tull, New Order, Janet Jackson, Joan Jett, Chicago, Iron Maiden, Roxy Music, The Moody Blues and Journey.

Without even an act that led by even a small margin, we looked to our own rankings, and have selected Deep Purple to gain the visual on the Notinhalloffame.com logo.

If we go by history, this is no minor decision.  The first man who inhabited our Rock portion of the filmstrip was Alice Cooper who was inducted shortly after we launched the website.  Cooper was replaced with Rush, who at that time had never been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.  That year, the Canadians received not only their first nomination but also a prompt induction.

We figured that KISS would be on the logo for awhile, even when they were nominated for what was the second time, we thought Jan Wenner’s hatred for the kabuki painted band would keep them out.  It didn’t, and once again we found ourselves having to find a new act to take over the spot and the band that gave us Smoke on the Water are now to be featured prominently until they are inducted.

Considering that they were not nominated this year, this could be a little longer than expected, and perhaps we should have put the new logo up sooner so that we could have “helped” them get enshrined.”

Overall the logo has not helped those who have been on our Baseball panel as Barry Bonds who used to have it and Pete Rose who once had the slot do not seem very close to Cooperstown.  Legendary broadcaster and Canadian icon, Don Cherry has been represented on the logo from the beginning and he is still being passed over by the Builders Committee.  The same snub has been said for the late Randy “Macho Man” Savage, who longtime fans of the WWE have been clamoring for.

We are very curious to see which person and what year we will remove the next person from our logo.  We promise to replace it much sooner than we did this year!
