A very significant, and very intriguing name has called it a career as Matthew Slater announced via the New England Patriots social media, that he is retiring after 16 seasons in the NFL, all of which were with the Pats.

Slater made history with ten Pro Bowls, the most of any Special Teams player in football history, is the son of Pro Football Hall of Famer, Jackie Slater.  A Fifth Round Pick in 2008, Slater was twice a First Team All-Pro, a three-time Super Bowl Champion, and a 2010s All-Decade Selection.

Slater’s path to the Pro Football Hall of Fame will be difficult with Steve Tasker’s failure, but it is not impossible.  He is eligible for Canton in 2029.

We here at Notinhalloffame.com would like to wish Matthew Slater the best in post-playing career.

Last night at UFC 298, it was announced that Wanderlei Silva will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame as part of the Pioneer Wing.

From Brazil, Silva holds the record for the most wins, title defenses and knockouts in the history of Pride, where he was a Middleweight Champion.  Silva had wars against Kazushi Sakuraba, Quinton Jackson, Vitor Belfort, Chuck Lidell, Michael Bisping and Tito Ortiz and left the sport with an overall record of 35-14-1-1.

He becomes the 19th inductee to the Pioneer Wing.

Silva will be joining Frankie Edgar, who was selected last month via the Modern Wing.

We here at Notinhalloffame.com would like to congratulate Wanderlei Silva for earning this impending honor.

1956 SEMI-FINAL RESULTS:

Thank you for all of you who have participated in the Pro Football Hall of Fame Revisited Project, and if you are unaware of what that is, simply, we acted as if the PFHOF had their first class in January of 1946?

We have completed the years up to 1955.

For “1956” a Preliminary Vote with over 130 players whose playing career ended by 1949. We are also following the structure in that players have 20 years of eligibility, and if they do not make it into the Hall, they are relegated to the Senior Pool.

Each voter was asked to select 25 names from the preliminary list, with the top 25 vote getters named as Semi-Finalists.

A week later, the voters were asked to pick 15 names from the 25 Semi-Finalists, and next week, they will pick five from the remaining 15. We will continue this process weekly until we catch up to the current year.

31 Votes took place, with the top five advancing.
