John Phalen “Stuffy” McInnis was signed by the Philadelphia Athletics before the 1909 season, and he would play off the bench, usually at Shortstop for his first two seasons.  McInnis would take over at First Base in 1911, and became the youngest member of Connie Mack’s “$100,000 Infield”.

It was a great move for the Athletics.  McInnis batted over .300 every season from 1911 to 1917, except one, and he was close with a .295 Average.  He rarely struck out, had a decent speed on the base paths, and was good with his glove.  McInnis would help Philadelphia win three Pennants (1911, 1913 & 1914), with two of them resulting in World Series Championships.

McInnis would later win two more World Series Titles, one with Boston (1918), and another with Pittsburgh (1925).  With the Athletics, he would accumulate 1,192 Hits with a .313 Batting Average.
