Buckaroo Banzai and the Hong Kong Cavaliers
A film that crossed multiple genres, Buckaroo Banzai (as it is commonly known) featured a hero who was the ultimate Renaissance man. Of his many skills, “Rock Star” was one, and his multi-talented associates were his backup band. Music was part of the film, but that was not necessarily what was remembered the most in this quirky cult film.

The Bullet Points:
Movies Appeared:
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)

Actors:
Peter Weller (Buckaroo Banzai)
Clancy Brown (Rawhide)
Pepe Serna (Reno Nevada)
Lewis Smith (Perfect Tommy)
Jeff Goldblum (Dr. Sidney Zweibel)
Billy Vera (Pinky Carruthers)

Songs you might remember:
Since I Don’t Have You

Why you should vote for them:
This cult film does have its share of fans.

Why you should not vote for them:
The film was memorable, but is the music amongst the first things you think about?

Brutha Fez

Brutha Fez
From the strange yet effective David Cronenberg film, Cosmopolis, the funeral of the lead character’s favorite rapper, Brutha Fez set everything in motion. Played by the innovative Somalian-Canadian Rap Star, K’Naan, we did not hear as much of him as we would have liked, but the way this film was constructed, we do understand why; though there far more other things in this film we didn’t understand.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Cosmopolis (2012)

Actor:
K’Naan

Songs you might remember:
Mecca

Why you should vote for him:
Musically, what was seen was decent.

Why you should not vote for him:
Many of the people who watched this film, could not have cared less about the rapper.

The Brothers Brothers

The Brothers Brothers
A Smothers Brothers parody (though the actual Smothers Brothers apparently provided the singing voices), The Brothers Brothers was a pair of singers oblivious to the fact they were black, which was essentially the running gag. Played by Keenan Ivory Wayans and Damon Wayans on “In Living Colour”, the sketch was always good for a laugh, but the music was not exactly special.

The Bullet Points:
TV Show Appeared:
In Living Colour (1990-91)

Actors:
Damon Wayans
Keenan Ivory Wayans

Songs you might remember:
None

Why you should vote for them:
This is a chance to respect a very good sketch comedy of the early 90’s.

Why you should not vote for them:
Music was a small part of the parody.

Brian Slade

Brian Slade
Somewhat based on David Bowie (though he apparently hated the movie) we had the story of Glam Rock star, Brian Slade (Jonathan Rhys-Meyers) from the movie, Velvet Goldmine. Slade is struggling with the trappings of fame, and snaps to the point where he fakes his own death on stage. Unfortunately for Slade, the faux suicide was viewed as a publicity stunt gone wrong. Musically, the film is very good, and it is a great snapshot of the Glam period, though without a mass audience, we just don’t see this entry going very far.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Velvet Goldmine (1998)

Actor:
Jonathan Rhys-Meyers

Songs you might remember:
Venus in Furs
Sebastian

Why you should vote for him:
This is a musical act about a musical genre. There are not nearly enough of those here.

Why you should not vote for him:
The fact that Bowie hated it could be enough for some people.
