Coheed and Cambria

There are many who have suggested that Coheed and Cambria have mastered the hard rock concept album and arguably they have done that better than anyone.  With a progressive metal style covered in intelligent lyrics, Coheed and Cambria certainly created their only little niche in the music world.  That is good news and bad news in the world of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as while they meet the innovation category, and while they have done very well in terms of sales and concerts, they might be considered too much of a niche to really gain acceptance.

Cee Lo Green

Here is another interesting one.

Cee Lo Green has done very well in various groups and as a solo performer in the R&B and Soul genre.   His work with Gnarls Barkley and the Goodie Mob cemented him as a star but he also as a music connoisseur.  Somehow, CeeLo should enter Cleveland, but this is still a hard row to tow as there are 70’s and 80’s versions of Green that are still waiting for induction.

Breaking Benjamin

Many of the reviews for Pennsylvania’s Alt-Rock back, Breaking Benjamin, generally praised them for their consistent style.  That might be praise, but while they did have success in the mid 2000’s with a post grunge sound, it was similar to what a lot of other bands were doing at the time and not exactly innovate or unique.  They would come back with a number one album (their first) in 2015, which again received moderately positive reviews, praising what else?   The musical style that they have been doing all along.

Black Lips

Black Lips are a very entertaining Punk band, but their charm is primarily based on their rowdy live shows, many of which were known to get completely out of control.  That should not take away from a band that is lyrically better than they get credit for, though we wonder what percentage of their fans focus on that.
