We are remembering for that hot second in the early 90’s when we had a crush on Moira Kelly. Actually, though the movie wasn’t that good, it was that irrational attraction that probably caused us to watch in the first place. Still, Kelly was decent as the spoiled brat ice skating princess which was actually what she was asked to do. Funny, how half of the fictitious athletes we witness fail at that.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
The Cutting Edge (1992)

Actor:
Moira Kelly

Played for:
U.S.A.

Why you should vote for her:
Maybe you had a crush on her too for a hot minute?

Why you should not vote for him:
Figure Skating is not exactly a sport that many visitors of this site probably like.

K. C. Carr

It really should matter whether or not “Kansas City Bomber” was a good film, but allow us to point out two essential facts in 1972.

Fact #1: Roller Derby was a hot sport in 1972, especially on the women’s side.

Fact #2: Raquel Welch was hot in 1972.

The question here is not the validity of roller derby as a sport (it certainly is), but it did not remain a relevant one, and as such this movie is largely forgotten.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Kansas City Bomber (1972)

Actor:
Raquel Welch

Played for:
Portland Loggers

Why you should vote for her:
Despite what you would think, this movie isn’t half bad.

Why you should not vote for her:
Nobody watches roller derby anymore, and the film didn’t age well (unlike Raquel Welch, who aged beautifully).

Jules Paxton

Jules Paxton
As Jules Paxton in Bend it Like Beckham, Keira Knightley broke out in a great role which was not standard “best friend” fare. She was spunky, athletic and despite not having top billing, was the “Alpha Female” in the flick. We are not sure if anyone from this movie will get inducted into the Hall of Fame, but if one does, we suspect it will Knightley.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Bend it Like Beckham (2002)

Actor:
Keira Knightley

Position Portrayed:
Striker

Played for:
Hounslow Harriers

Why you should vote for her:
It was a strong role, both for acting and for our sports related purposes.

Why you should not vote for him:
More people probably watched this movie than watched women’s soccer.

Judge Elihu Smails

Judge Smails
You have to hand it to Ted Knight who managed to portray Judge Elihu Smails as a character with no redeeming qualities and was easily the most pompous blowhard in sports cinema history. Considering that most people knew Knight as the bungling newscaster, Ted Baxter on the Mary Tyler Moore Show (which itself was one of the best television characters in the 1970’s) the fact that you immediately forgot his Emmy Award winning performances within the first words of Judge Smails.

Smails was the co-founder of the Bushwood Country Club that the common man (or even other rich men) despised. He was so unlikable that you could not imagine anyone hoping that Smails would win that $20,000 golf match against Al Czervic and Ty Webb. At least we think that even Lex Luthor had a fan somewhere?

The question here is does the golfer who Sergio Garcia would have passed over in a pairing for Tiger Woods have a place here?

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Caddyshack (1980)

Actor:
Ted Knight

Why you should vote for him:
Sports villains don’t get much better than this.

Why you should not vote for him:
He lost because of a gopher. A gopher?
