Written and directed by Louis C.K., Pootie Tang was part farce, part blaxploitation commentary and part comedic genius. It was not well received, but it did gain an audience, and the lead character was shown to be a singer/rapper of sorts within the film. We are not sure whether this is a serious contender for the Hall or not, but again this is one where we glad we don’t have to decide. The Bullet Points: TV Show and Movie Appeared: The Chris Rock Show (1997-2000) Pootie Tang (2001) Actor: Lance Crouther Songs you might remember: None Why you should vote for him: Even those who hated it acknowledged it was funny. Why you should not vote for him: The music was not a focus, actually it was a joke. {youtube}

We don’t really know much about the Pinheads other than that Marty McFly fronted them and played lead guitar. We saw them audition for the Battle of the Bands by playing the Huey Lewis and the News song, “The Power of Love”, though we did not see them for long. They were told by the judges (one of them being Huey Lewis in a cameo) seconds after debut that they were “too loud”. We are not sure what became of the Pinheads, but we suspect that the lead singer might sound a bit like Chuck Berry. The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Back to the Future (1985) Actors: Michael J. Fox Paul Hanson Lee Brownfield Robert DeLapp Songs you might remember: The Power of Love Why you should vote for them: This may not be the most successful fictitious band, but they were in one of the most successful movies of all time. Why you should not vote for them: We did not even get thirty seconds of the Pinheads. {youtube}

She was cute, she could sing and she was the object of desire for the Phantom of the Paradise. All of that may be true, but please lets never see Phoenix try to dance again!

In the 1990’s, Friends was a pop culture phenomenon, and people would watch the show and ask each other which “Friend” they were. The quirkiest character was Phoebe Buffay, especially in the early seasons where she performed at “Central Perk”. Her signature song (and perhaps the song of 1995) was “Smelly Cat” which if you did not come of age in that era, you may not understand how many twenty-somethings knew that song. Friends was the biggest show of that decade, so this may not be an impossible induction. People of a certain age; know what we are talking about. The Bullet Points: TV Show Appeared: Friends (1994-2004) Actor: Lisa Kudrow Songs you might remember: Smelly Cat Why you should vote for her: If you remember the mid 1990’s, you understand how big this was. Why you should not vote for her: “Smelly Cat” was her best song. Now think about that for a minute. {youtube}
