The Dregs of Humanity

Dregs of Humanity The
Jason Bateman’s first shot in a leading role was in a pre Ferris Beuller role as a young con man in a 1984 Sitcom, It’s Your Move. The show only lasted one season, but it is still a favorite among many for the era, and when it is discussed, usually it is the “Dregs of Humanity” who are referenced.

The Dregs were actually science class skeletons that Bateman put together to appear at the school dance after his dufus friend (Eli) lost the money to hire the original band. With fog, lights, lots of string and prerecorded Heavy Metal, the band was a hit, and is actually interviewed by Norman (who played Bateman’s mother’s boyfriend), which would be sold to Rolling Stone Magazine. The band is killed off when they no show a sold out concert (remember, they were an instant hit) and it is later revealed that they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Now how can we ignore them for the Fictitious Hall with that nugget of information?

The Dreams

DreamsThe
Specifically the version from the movie version of Dreamgirls, The Dreams were the Diana Ross and the Supremes knockoff that gave us a cast that gave us an Academy Award Winner (Jennifer Hudson) and one of the biggest musical stars ever (Beyonce). Hudson won the Oscar, but overall the trio was brilliant and was a version worth considering for this Fictitious Rock And Roll Hall of Fame.

The Bullet Points:
Movie Appeared:
Dreamgirls (2006)

Beyonce Knowles (Gino Minnelli, Guitar)
Jennifer Hudson (Martha Spino, Vocals)

Why you should vote for them:
Overall, they were brilliant.

Why you should not vote for them:
It was so close to the Supremes, that it was not “fictitious” enough.

Dreams

Dreams
First off we will apologize as we think the name of the fictitious band in the brief CBS show, Dreams was called Dreams. Even if we are wrong, does it really matter that much? With only twelve episodes and minuscule ratings this is just an answer to an unasked trivia question of what show starred Jami Gertz and John Stamos?

Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem
Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem first made their debut on television in 1975 on a show you probably don’t remember; The Muppet Show: Sex and Violence but it was their role as the house band on The following Muppet Show, which is where they really took a foothold in the fictional band world.

Over the five seasons that the Muppets were on the air, Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem weren’t just the house band but would appear in multiple numbers and backstage sketches.  The group would also be in all of the Muppet Movies and the recent reboot.  Perhaps what is most interesting is that the group, who were clearly modeled after 1970’s characters do not seem dated, even though their influences clearly are.

Let’s take a look at the band!

Animal (Drums).  While it is uncertain just which famous drummer that the wild coiffed muppet is based on, there is no doubt that he was the “breakout” character of the group.  Animal was as wild as his name suggested and he could best be described as primitive, albeit in the most adorable way.

Dr. Teeth (Keyboards).  The leader of the band comes complete with a lone gold tooth and fur vest is certainly Woodstock ready but is he out of place in the hipster environment?  The character is based on New Orleans legend and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, Dr. John.

Floyd Pepper (Bass).  Dr. Teeth might be the leader, but it is Floyd Pepper who often is tasked as the lead singer.  With his name and look, Pepper is a clear homage to the late 60’s Rock, which is arguably a stull popular genre of music today.

Janice (Lead Guitar).  Clearly inspired by Janis Joplin, though looking more like Joni Mitchell, Janice is the ditzy yet talented flower child of the group.

Zoot (Saxophone).  The band’s elder statesmen, the balding and somewhat melancholy saxophone player may have seen it all in the fictional music world and continues to tell the tale.

The Fictitious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame are pleased to welcome Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem to the Class of 2017.
