335. John Cale

When history has painted you as one of the most influential Rock musicians you would think that that individual would be a virtual lock for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Despite that, very few potential inductions on this list would shock us more than that of John Cale.

Cale is already in as a member of the Velvet Underground, but his solo work was revered also. He has been called everything from the father of Punk and New Wave to the most important underground musician of all time. He is the proverbial “enigma wrapped in a riddle” creating that music that you could not tell if he was angry or ironic, or whether he was looking to create anything remotely mainstream or stay completely underground. In addition to being an accomplished musician, Cale was a very successful producer; so much so that it may overshadow his solo career. Of course, everything he did individually is essentially overshadowed by the Velvet Underground and with them being in the Hall already, John Cale could be the most deserving man for two inductions who has virtually no real shot to get it.
