150. Siouxsie & the Banshees

If you take one look at the Siouxsie & the Banshees the quick reaction is to view them as a Goth Band. Looks are certainly deceiving in this case, and though that does describe their look and a component of their music that is hardly all that they were.

Siouxsie & the Banshees came out of the English Punk scene and quickly turned heads with their brand of experimental Post Punk. Their catalogue was diverse and was capable of delivering multiple styles. As experimental as they were, they may have been at their best with their version of Alternative Pop which was catchy, different and astonishingly capable of drawing diverse audiences. Still revered today in Alternative circles today they bear the distinction of being relevant for a long period of time and helped to push the boundaries of multiple genres. Their lead singer, Siouxsie Sioux was an icon for other female stars and her subtle sexuality helped to draw attention that similar acts could not get. Unlike other Alternative bands from the U.K., Siouxsie & the Banshees did gain some notoriety in America, but it may not have been enough to gain induction.
