Today, we lost the GOAT. The man known universally by only one name, Pele, passed away at the age of 82 from colon cancer. Pele led his home nation of Brazil to the game’s highest pinnacle, the World Cup, to three victories (1958, 1962 & 1970), doing so with class, flair and unequalled skill, and would become a global ambassador. Mixed Martial Arts lost one of its favorite sons, as Stephan Bonnar, died of heart issues at the tender age of 45. From Hammond, Indiana, Bonnar became a permanent fixture on the MMA scene when he made the Ultimate Fighter 1 Finals, in a unanimous decision loss to Forrest Griffin. Despite his loss, Bonnar was so impressive in defeat that Dana White signed him to a UFC contract. One of the greatest Running Backs of all-time, Franco Harris, passed away at the age of 72. Harris debuted in the professional ranks in 1972 for the Steelers, a team he didn’t have to travel far from as he was a star at Penn State. The Running Back won the Offensive Rookie of the Year, going to the Pro Bowl and rushing for 1,055 Yards and 10 Touchdowns. The Missouri Valley Conference has announced the latest Class for their Hall of Fame, which this year is comprised of six people. Andy Benes, Evansville, 1986-88, Baseball, Basketball & Football: Benes was a three-sport superstar, but it was Baseball where he was at his best. The Pitcher was the Conference Player of the Year in 1988, where he went 16-3 and won the Pitcher’s Triple Crown.
