Not in Hall of Fame News

The New England Patriots have announced that Ty Law will be the 22nd member of the franchise’s Hall of Fame by winning their fan vote.  Law will be officially inducted on August 1st outside their Hall of Fame facility in a ceremony that will be available to the public.  Law will be further celebrated at their October 16th game against the New York Jets at halftime. Ty Law was drafted in the First Round in 1995 (23rd overall) and was a member of three Super Bowl championship teams.  He spent his first ten seasons in the NFL with the Pats…

When the Los Angeles Kings eliminated the Anaheim Ducks, it was believed that the NHL career of Teemu Selanne had come to an end.  Selanne first entered the NHL with the original Winnipeg Jets in the 1992/93 season, and he took the league by storm by not only winning the Calder Trophy, but leading the NHL in Goals with 76.  “The Finnish Flash” never hit that total again, but he would again top the NHL in Goals twice more, the latter of which, he was awarded the first ever Rocket Richard Trophy which now annually is given the NHL player…
Is it going to be a weekly occurrence where we praise the actions of the Country Music Hall of Fame?  It sure looks like it as once again, we have become aware of another major exhibit that will take place there, this time honouring the career of Miranda Lambert. Lambert, who is only 30 years old, has had a meteoric rise to stardom, and arguably has a lot more hits and awards in them, probably could have another exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame in a decade.  However, with the expanded size, and new modern attitude, this exhibit…
We owe you all an apology!  When the New York Yankees announced a few days ago that they were retiring the number 6 of Joe Torre, and the inevitable end of single digit uniforms in the Bronx.  In addition to the retirement of number 6 and his addition to Monument Park, there are additional plaques of former Yankees that will go on permanent display. Multiple plaques exist on Monument Park are present that celebrates the careers of Yankees who did not have their number retire.  This includes, Miller Huggins, Jacob Ruppert, Joe McCarthy, Lefty Gomez, Allie Reynolds, Mel Allen, Bob…
Every year that the Tennis Hall of Fame announces their latest class, we have openly questioned the standards of those they have let into their establishment.  Basically, their Hall of Fame has a lot who fit into a Hall of “Pretty Good”.  However, the Rhode Island based institution has announced something that we feel is worth praising with their 16 million dollar expansion. Additional exhibits and the use of upgraded technology is part of the plan, the rest of which involves additional tennis courts, a larger stadium, and additional campus wide amenities.   We are curious to see if this will…
Whether or not you think the process behind the Baseball Hall of Fame voting is a controversial or not, one thing that most people agree on is that there is something magical about Cooperstown and all that it represents.  That is why it is worth celebrating when a major piece of its facility is now going on tour. The Hall of Fame plaque of Babe Ruth, who may still be the most iconic Baseball Player of all time, will be on display when the New York Yankees host their cross-town rival, the Mets this Tuesday.  Afterwards, the plaque will be…
Well it looks like we have another musical Hall of Fame in the state of Tennessee to praise this month! In the great musical city of Memphis, construction has begun on a 12,000 square foot facility, which is scheduled for completion in one year’s time.  The Blues Hall of Fame originated in 1980, by the Blues Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserve the history of what is arguably one of the most important musical genres in the world.  The Foundation is affiliated with over 175 Blues organizations around the world and uses philanthropic endeavours to help past Blues legends in…
The New York Yankees have announced that they will be retiring the number of Joe Torre, who managed the team to four World Series Championships in 1996, 1998, 1999 and 2000, and made an additional two Fall Classics on the losing end. Torre wore number 6 as the Yankees skipper and with the impending retirement of Derek Jeter who wore number 2 (and is expected to have his number retired), the Bronx Bombers will have no numbers available with one digit.  As a player, Torre won the National League MVP in 1971 and though he did not receive the votes…
Derrick Brooks entered the Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, much like his long time defensive teammate with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Warren Sapp did.  The Bucs have announced that just as they did Sapp, they will be retiring his number 55, this season on the September 14th game at home against the St. Louis Rams. Brooks will become the third player in Buccaneers history to receive this prestigious accolade.  The first was Lee Roy Selmon, who was the 1979 Defensive Player of the Year and was there from 1976 to 1984.  No other player in…
