Barry Bonds now #1 on the Baseball List

The most controversial group of players in baseball history are eligible for the Hall of Fame this year and much like we suspect the Baseball Writers of America struggled with their ballot much the way we fought with our ranking. In the end, we made the decision to treat the Steroids Era as just that: an era. We will never how many players elected to take Performance Enhancing Drugs, but we know it was a high amount, and we know until recently it was not illegal under the rules of Major League Baseball.

With this said, for the second consecutive year in a row, our Baseball list has undergone a major overhaul from top to bottom. It includes many players who are eligible for the first time, and a slew of players that we have ranked for the first time, and possibly overlooked. As you can tell by the headline, Barry Bonds tops our list at “1c”; the highest ranked ELIGIBLE player for Cooperstown.

Three other controversial first timers appear in the top ten. The currently newsworthy, Roger Clemens debuts at number 2, Mike Piazza appears at number 4 and Sammy Sosa enters at number 10.

Also debuting on our list are Craig Biggio at 14, Curt Schilling at 19, Kevin Brown at 29, Bernie Williams at 31, Charlie Buffington at 33, Kenny Lofton at 43, Jimmy Wynn at 49, David Cone at 59, Julio Franco at 53, Dave Stieb at 61, Reggie Smith at 65, Rick Reuschel at 73, Jerry Koosman at 77, Frank Tanana at 79, Silver King at 81, Chuck Finlay at 87, Larry Jackson and Tommy Bridges at 98.

As always, we encourage you to vote and state your opinions. Remember, that votes and opinions alter rankings here and remember one rule here: Have fun!
