Draper was such a good “grinder” that he was the center of the line with the same name with Kirk Maltby and Darren McCarty (or Joey Kocur). Most successful hockey clubs employ players like Draper, and he was so good at his role that he is an elusive member of the 1,000 Game club with Detroit, an honor that only six other former Red Wings can boast.
He wasn't a great scorer (361 Points with Detroit), but his defensive skills were strong, so much so that he won the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 2004 and finished sixth for that piece of hardware in the two years after. Following his retirement in 2011, Draper joined the Red Wings front office.
