It was a rough start, as while he made the Detroit Lions roster, he didn’t fit in culturally. He briefly joined the military in 1968, and the Lions did not want him back, and he played for the Michigan Arrows of the Continental Football League before finding a home with the Miami Dolphins in 1980.
Yepremian had now paid his dues, and he would emerge as the best Kicker of the decade, as shown by his selection to the 1970s All-Decade Team. As a Dolphin, Yepremian would lead the NFL three times in Field Goal Percentage, and was twice a First Team All-Pro, and twice a Pro Bowl Selection.
The Kicker will be remembered for two distinct post-season moments. The first was kicking a 37-yard Field Goal to put Miami in Super Bowl VI over the Kansas City Chiefs in double overtime. In the following Super Bowl, his Field Goal Attempt was blocked with seven minutes left, and when the ball ricocheted back to him, he tried to throw the ball rather than sit on it. It was picked off and returned back for a TD, this giving their opponents, the Washington Redskins hope to win the game. They didn't, thankfully for Yepremian.
He left the Dolphins in 1979 when he signed with the New Orleans Saints. With Miami, Yepremian scored 830 Points.
