Ah, the stalker. Not exactly the best “contributor” per say, but one that is a common in modern sports and will probably fuel future sports, we have the “obsessed fan”. At least here in the 2002 attempted horror film, “Swimfan”, we have a nominee that is borderline hot. Seriously, that is all we got!
The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Swimfan (2002)
Actor: Erika Christensen
Role Portrayed: Obsessed Swim fan
Why You Should Vote For Her: Not really sure. Well, she was cute.
Why You Should Not Vote For Her: If Robert DeNiro is struggling to get inducted as an obsessed fan, should we really look at this one seriously?
As we have stated, we are not always the biggest fans of “girlfriends” in sports movies, but we will say that we did enjoy Rene Russo, as Lynn Wells, a past girlfriend of Jake Taylor (Tom Bereneger) who at least has to be wooed back. We will also say that this was Rene Russo at the apex of her hotness.
The Bullet Points: Movies Appeared: Major League (1989) Major League 2 (1994)
Actor: Rene Russo
Role Portrayed: Former Girlfriend of Indians Catcher, Jake Taylor
Why You Should Vote For Her: She was very hot in this role at this time.
Why You Should Not Vote For Her: If she wasn’t in the film, how much difference would it have made?
Every boxing movie needs a trainer right? Following in the vein of Mickey Goldmill, Rocky…er…Razor Sharp’s trainer is a crusty old codger, though this one has a better sense of humor. What that means for this Hall isn’t a whole lot, as the film will likely struggle to get an inductee of any kind.
The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: Grudge Match (2013)
Actor: Alan Arkin
Role Portrayed: Boxing Trainer
Why You Should Vote For Him: Arkin was likable, and knows how to nail the curmudgeon with the heart of gold as well as anyone.
Why You Should Not Vote For Him: Arkin has playing this type of role for years.
Generally, we don’t include girlfriends as potential Contributors, but since “For Love of the Game” is half RomCom and half sports films, we thought this was worth a nomination.
Although we personally far preferred the intricacies of Billy Chapel (Kevin Costner) on the mound, the relationship between Chapel and Jane Aubrey (Kelly Preston) was half of the movie, and since she was billed second in what was a respected sports film, she deserves a nomination. Also, we want to throw her a bone for being the beard for Travolta for so many years.
The Bullet Points: Movie Appeared: For Love of the Game (1999)
Actor: Kelly Preston
Role Portrayed: Girlfriend
Why You Should Vote For Her: We’ll say this; she was one of the better girlfriends, or at least one of the most multi-dimensional in terms of character.
Why You Should Not Vote For Her: It’s a girlfriend role. That is probably not what a lot of people think that this Hall of Fame should be about.
