According to Whoopi Goldberg’s horrible 2003 Sitcom, Whoopi, Mavis Rae was one third of a one-hit wonder act from 1986. She apparently invested the money she made from her hit to buy a hotel, which we can only assume she did so that we could see her hotel’s wacky antics for half a season. Notably, one of the other Blackbirds was played by Sheryl Lee Ralph.
