While King was undoubtedly more than capable and on the rise, the organization felt that his off-court issues made him expendable and jettisoned him to the Utah Jazz. King would later be named to four All-Star Games.
He would be brought back in his final season (1992/93), but persistent knee problems would force him to retire shortly after.
King would be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.
