It was a slow start for Fernandez as he did not do well in 1991 and 1992, but he broke out in 1993 with an 18-9 season with a 3.13 ERA. The Floridian was then affixed in the second rung of American League Pitchers for the next three seasons, and from 1993 to 1996, he would finish in the top ten in both SO/BB and WHIP. 1996 would be his last season in Chicago, and he left with a 200 Strikeout year and a sixth-place finish in Cy Young voting.
Fernandez would sign with the Florida Marlin, where he won a World Series Ring and played three years before retiring. With the White Sox, he would post a record of 79-63 with 951 Strikeouts.
