Drafted in the 1st Round in 1974, Stanley debuted in 1977 and would wear Boston's uniform for 13 seasons. He was used in every imaginable role for the BoSox, as he had stints as a closer, starter, set-up man, and long reliever. In 1979, he started 30 of 40 Games, and was an All-Star, and the year before, he was seventh in Cy Young voting, when he was mostly used in short relief. His second All-Star Game was in 1983, where this time, he was used as a closer with 33 Saves. Coincidentally, he also was seventh in Cy Young voting the season before.
Stanley would last pitch in 1989 and retired with a 115-97 record with 122 Saves. In 2000, the Red Sox inducted Stanley into their Hall of Fame.
