Playing for the Boston Beaneaters in the National League, Buck Freeman often clashed with his Manager, Frank Selee, and he had a poor year after blasting 25 Home Runs the season before with Washington, and setting (a since broken record).  The emergence of the American League, allowed him to leave, though he stayed in Boston to join the Boston Americans.

The move rejuvenated Freeman, who batted .339 with 12 Home Runs and 114 RBIs in 1901, all numbers that placed him in the top three.  His Batting Average dropped to .309, but he won the RBI Title in 1902 with 121.  1903 was even more fulfilling as although his Batting Average went below .300, he won the Home Run Title (13) and won his second RBI Title (104).  That Home Run Title made him the first player to win that statistical category in both the National League and American League.  He would also take Boston to a World Series win.

Freeman’s play would decline rapidly after, and he was off of the roster early in 1907.  With Boston, he had 879 Hits with 504 RBIs and a .286 Batting Average.  The Red Sox chose Freeman for their Hall of Fame in 2018.
