Tall men with exceptional girth may be a rare sight on the street but in the world of professional wrestling it is actually commonplace. What wasn’t standard was for those wrestlers to have agility, skill and a solid workrate. In the case of George Gray, A.K.A., the One Man Gang, all those attributes were present.
Like many big men, the Gang would enter a territory, beat up the preliminary combatants and challenge for their main belt. In the WWE, The Gang essentially got to do it twice. Mid run in the WWE, George Gray shed the One Man Gang gimmick for that of the African American, Akeem (basically a white guy who thought he was black). The gimmick may have bordered on being offensive, but as Akeem he was able to show other facets of his personality that was never before shown. Gray would revert back to the Gang gimmick in WCW and although he never won a slew of titles, he may have been the most underrated big man in wrestling history.
